Curriculum

Since 1989, Children’s Haven has earned a reputation in Denver for providing the very best in quality childcare and education. Classes are age-divided, with exceptionally caring teachers. Children’s Haven offers an innovative and comprehensive educational program, in a first-class facility, where a warm and caring staff utilizes a professional curriculum and the very best in educational toys and equipment.

Children’s Haven understands that the early childhood years are critical to the intellectual growth of children and that our role is merely a classroom extension of loving care and early learning. Our goal is to provide a loving atmosphere where children learn with a variety of carefully planned educational activities and programs designed to present an interesting and challenging curriculum in a relaxed learning atmosphere. We want to ensure that your young students have a positive and rewarding school experience as well as having fun while learning.

Infants

From early infancy, we give our love to the babies entrusted to our care so they will grow with trust in themselves and in others. Wholesome care will be provided in an atmosphere of warmth and love so that each one of these special little people can mature with a special sense of security.

Toddlers

Social/Emotional: Opportunities to share ideas, feelings, solve problems, and increase creative relationships beyond parents and family, with other adults (teachers) and peers.

Self-Help: Encourage independence – a sense of “I can do it.”

Language: Provide children with a supportive environment for self-expression; provide an opportunity to give input; enhance children’s listening; enhance speaking skills in an effort to encourage communication.

Gross Motor: Enhance the child’s ability to control his/her muscles and to move around independently; encourage the use of the whole body to extend their learning experience.

Fine Motor: Encourage grasping and manipulation with hands and feet and the development of eye-hand/foot coordination.

Cognitive: Offer children with a variety of opportunities to interact with his/her environment; enhance children’s ability to think, reason, infer and generalize; allow children to learn at their own pace.

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten

Cognitive: Provide children the opportunity to explore their personal curiosity and autonomy and enhance senses by demonstrating an acute sense of touch, describing foods by taste (sweet, sour, and salty); reproducing simple patterns by memory; ranking sounds (loud, louder, loudest) or by touch (soft, softer, softest) and by observing objects and pictures closely; allow children to develop their memory, logical thinking, strengthening relationships and using their logical sense of predicting what comes next, thereby enhancing creativity.

Language: Children are given the opportunity to develop their sentence structure; enhance their listening skills by listening to directions for games and other activities or listening to stories and then retelling the story in short sentence sequence using their own words; developing the ability to follow directions; understanding prepositions (in, out, under, on, off, etc.) and further understanding opposites (up/down, open/close, stop/go, happy/sad); beginning to understand the concept of labeling (names, concrete objects in the environment); recognizing and naming article of clothing and pieces of furniture.

Self-Help: Allow children the opportunity to feel good about themselves and their ability to function as independent individuals; allow children to express their feelings; teach children to recognize and name body parts; verbalize their full name, address, age, birthday and phone number.

Gross Motor: Enhance children’s hand-eye coordination, body coordination, rhythm and general movement such as walking forward, running smoothly, marching, skipping, hopping on one foot, walking heel and toe as well as walking on tip toes.

Fine Motor: Develop children’s finger strength and dexterity through folding, creasing paper to halves and quarters; enhance eye-hand coordination by stringing small beads or following a sequence of holes when lacing.

Social/Emotional: Guide children in showing empathy toward other children; teach children to work cooperatively with adults; playing and working cooperatively with other children in a classroom atmosphere; teach children the concept of understanding that problems can be solved by talking and not by fighting; understanding that families share responsibilities of work and recreation and further understanding the importance of keeping the school and the environment clean and free of litter.

School Age

The Before and After school age children are an important part of the Children’s Haven Child Care experience. School age children are subjected to the rigors of classroom activities during the school day. Children are generally with us only a few hours before and after school. The curriculum for children in this program is somewhat limited and mostly relegated to relaxing activities with direct supervision. Depending upon the desires of parents, we provide and encourage self-help tasks such as homework time and computer time.

In addition, the children can involve themselves in a variety of activities such as age-appropriate games for indoors as well as outdoors. Team playing and cooperation is encouraged. In either atmosphere, our caregivers are well prepared to provide a variety of such activities that encourage cooperation and problem solving, whether it be with games, homework or solving disagreements. Rest assured, your children are actively supervised and interact with the caregivers on a daily basis. All children are treated with the respect and dignity that defines the atmosphere found at Children’s Haven.
